Why Simple Answers Feel So Appealing
Dr. Sarah Ahmed
Child Psychologist
5 min read
Boys today are growing up in a world full of competing opinions. Social media can expose them to confident voices offering simple explanations for complicated problems: why people behave the way they do, why relationships go wrong, who is successful, who is to blame, and how the world supposedly works.
These explanations can be appealing because they make a complicated world feel easier to understand.
The important thing isn't to challenge every opinion your son encounters. It's to help him develop the confidence and curiosity to ask: Is it really that simple?
Why certainty can feel good
Adolescence involves a lot of uncertainty. Boys are working out who they are, where they fit in, what other people think of them and what kind of man they want to become.
At the same time, they may be dealing with rejection, friendships, relationships, school, appearance, status and worries about their future.

Frequently asked questions

How much time does it take?

Most daily actions take around five minutes. You pick a moment that suits your family, and the app gives you the words to start.

Does my son use the app?

No. CounterScript is for parents. Your son never needs an account, and the actions are things you do together in real life.

Is it free?

Start with a 7-day free trial of the full app. After that it is £39.99 a year, and you can cancel anytime. If your school has partnered with CounterScript, everything is included at no cost to you.

How do I cancel my subscription or free trial?

Cancelling is done through your phone’s settings, not inside the app. Here’s how:

  • iPhone: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → CounterScript → Cancel Subscription.
  • Android: Google Play → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → CounterScript → Cancel.
Heads up: deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. You will still be charged until you cancel in your phone’s settings.
I want a refund. How do I get one?

Apple or Google takes the payment, so they handle refunds. On iPhone, request one through Apple’s Report a Problem page. On Android, request one from your order history in Google Play.

Where can I get it?

On the App Store and Google Play. Search for CounterScript, use the download buttons at the top of this page, or scan the QR code at the bottom with your phone’s camera.
